You know, you always see those sappy scenes in movies where the guy drops down on one knee in the middle of Rockefeller Center in New York City, right in front of the Christmas tree, with the music playing, the snow falling … oh, it is just such a winter wonderland, and so magical! Women always swoon a little bit when they see this, thinking how wonderful it would be if it was them.

Now? It can be! Here is your chance to make the fairy tale a reality!

The Rink at Rockefeller Center

The Engagement on Ice package offers front-of-the-line access ensuring that the lucky couple can head straight onto the ice for a romantic spin around the Rink. As the session ends, the other skaters will disappear, leaving the couple alone on the ice. “Their song” will begin to play, setting the scene for the perfect proposal. Once she (or he) says “yes,” the Rink staff can deliver a bouquet (dropped off ahead of time by the proposer) to the new fiancée before the couple takes one last lap around the Rink. To complete the experience, the two toast to their good fortune rink-side with flutes of Champagne and can enjoy a celebratory dinner at the Rock Center Café at a table looking out at Rockefeller Center.

The cost of the Engagement on Ice package is $250, from Dec. 1 through Jan. 4, 2008; $200 from Jan. 5 through April, all inclusive. Reservations are required and availability is limited. Call 212-332-7655 to schedule an Engagement on Ice, which includes:

Admission front-of-the-line access for two
Two skating passes
Skate rentals for two
Signature song played during or after the proposal (music provided by proposer)
The option to drop off a bouquet of flowers that can be skated out and presented to new fiancée
Private time on the ice for proposal and ‘victory lap’
Champagne toast at rink-side restaurant Rock Center Café
For an additional $200, a three-course dinner for two is available at Rock Center Café. Window tables can be reserved.

Rockefeller Proposal on the Ice

Located off of Fifth Avenue, between 49th and 50th streets, The Rink first opened on Christmas Day in 1936 as the premier artificial outdoor skating pond built in New York City, complete with modern amenities: night skating, a heated house for changing skates, piped-in music and rink-side dining. Today the Rink is an historic landmark, open seven days a week from October until early April. For more information on The Rink and its special packages, visit www.therinkatrockcenter.com or call 212-332-7655.

Just a tip – if you set up a proposal this fabulous, you might want to make sure you take a photographer along for the trip so that they can capture the photographs for you! Something this special deserves to be documented!

Oh my gosh, this is such a cute idea. We’ve been talking about tying the knot for a few months and eyeing an engagement ring for awhile now.

So hopefully my fiance gets the hint and buys me a gorgeous diamond engagement ring from http://www.idonowidont.com and somehow get him to have a romantic new york engagement and maybe he’ll surprise me with this amazing proposal on ice!

That looks so sweet. One question- how do the other skaters know to exit the rink?

Kelly December 16, 2008 at 11:51 am

@ Janelle – The rink will announce to the skaters to exit that the session is over… it would have to be up to the guy to convince her to “wait”…….

I need to fwd this to the bf ;-) Then again, as a hockey coach, I’m sure he has these connections for free locally….

What happens if the person you’re proposing to says no? Then you’re out a bunch of money and publicly humiliated to boot. I know I’d laugh my arse off watching someone get rejected like that. It’s not funny that the love of their life turns them down no, that’s horrid, but it is funny that it happened the way it did. Then again, I’m a cruel person in general.

I don’t think I’d like that at all. It’s so public and so incredibly cheesy. And it kind of makes you feel obligated to say yes since you’re in such a public setting. Then there’s the idea that some workers at an ice rink know about it before you do. It’s just… odd. I’d much rather something more private and not so.. bold.

I think it’s a great idea!!
