Jackie & John F. Kennedy on their wedding day

Ahhhh… the magic of old wedding photos. Don’t you just love looking through them?

Back in November, Brittany started working with me as my assistant, and her help has been … well, more than something I can even express with words. HUGE.

I discovered while working together that not only is she a fabulous assistant, but she LOVES WEDDINGS. Loves, loves, loves them. She is absolutely giddy about attending upcoming bridal shows. Then it hit me – she is a great writer, she loves weddings … and she would be a perfect fit for WhollyMatrimony!

In addition to her love of wedding things, Brittany is also a writer (working on a book!) an avid reader, and a knitter. Matter of fact, I first met her at the local yarn shop because we both knit, and we often go there on Fridays to hang out with the fabulous people at Twisted Yarns. She is also a fabulous cook.

We’ve got big plans in the works for 2009 – I can’t wait! It is going to be an amazing year!

We are looking for other writers for different features, and also for BRIDES who would like to blog about the wedding planning experience. Contact us if you are interested!

You know, you always see those sappy scenes in movies where the guy drops down on one knee in the middle of Rockefeller Center in New York City, right in front of the Christmas tree, with the music playing, the snow falling … oh, it is just such a winter wonderland, and so magical! Women always swoon a little bit when they see this, thinking how wonderful it would be if it was them.

Now? It can be! Here is your chance to make the fairy tale a reality!

The Rink at Rockefeller Center

The Engagement on Ice package offers front-of-the-line access ensuring that the lucky couple can head straight onto the ice for a romantic spin around the Rink. As the session ends, the other skaters will disappear, leaving the couple alone on the ice. “Their song” will begin to play, setting the scene for the perfect proposal. Once she (or he) says “yes,” the Rink staff can deliver a bouquet (dropped off ahead of time by the proposer) to the new fiancée before the couple takes one last lap around the Rink. To complete the experience, the two toast to their good fortune rink-side with flutes of Champagne and can enjoy a celebratory dinner at the Rock Center Café at a table looking out at Rockefeller Center.

The cost of the Engagement on Ice package is $250, from Dec. 1 through Jan. 4, 2008; $200 from Jan. 5 through April, all inclusive. Reservations are required and availability is limited. Call 212-332-7655 to schedule an Engagement on Ice, which includes:

Admission front-of-the-line access for two
Two skating passes
Skate rentals for two
Signature song played during or after the proposal (music provided by proposer)
The option to drop off a bouquet of flowers that can be skated out and presented to new fiancée
Private time on the ice for proposal and ‘victory lap’
Champagne toast at rink-side restaurant Rock Center Café
For an additional $200, a three-course dinner for two is available at Rock Center Café. Window tables can be reserved.

Rockefeller Proposal on the Ice

Located off of Fifth Avenue, between 49th and 50th streets, The Rink first opened on Christmas Day in 1936 as the premier artificial outdoor skating pond built in New York City, complete with modern amenities: night skating, a heated house for changing skates, piped-in music and rink-side dining. Today the Rink is an historic landmark, open seven days a week from October until early April. For more information on The Rink and its special packages, visit www.therinkatrockcenter.com or call 212-332-7655.

Just a tip – if you set up a proposal this fabulous, you might want to make sure you take a photographer along for the trip so that they can capture the photographs for you! Something this special deserves to be documented!

Massage for the Cure is a great way to enjoy a wonderful, relaxing massage from Massage Envy while helping find a cure for breast cancer. The one day event is sweeping the nation, and coming to a clinic near you soon. Massage for the Cure is a guaranteed success, so the events are held annually at participating clinics to benefit local affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

All you do is call your local clinic and make an appointment for a 1-hour massage session for the day of our Massage for the Cure event. Instead of paying us for the massage, 100% of your donation for the massage goes to benefit the local affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Marriage isn’t always the happy bliss that we dream it will be leading up to our wedding day. That is the reality of life, and really – it is ok. But when is Reality really reality? Is Reality TV really real? Most of the times, it isn’t. A lot is left behind on the cutting room floor. There are still things we can learn from Reality TV couples though – as this article at HitchedMag points out.

My favorite:

Say what you mean, but no need to be mean with what you say. Your mother was right! If you don’t have anything nice to say… be quiet. Not something that often happens on reality television and we certainly see the outcome. So don’t be afraid to speak your truth, but turn the volume down a notch and pay attention when your spouse is speaking—no “channel surfing” allowed!

Your wedding plans shouldn’t just be about your wedding day. They should be about the marriage after the day too!

What things do you think you can learn from Reality TV couples?
